Well, what bothers me today? A lot!
First of all I am cranky because I have a cold - again! When will it finally get warm enough? Or when will I not catch a cold by just sticking my nose out the door?
Then there is trouble with my thesis. No no, it's not the thesis topic or such things. It's just, I don't dare to write a decent bit because I think I am too bad at writing. And then there is the closed library. Well, guess what, they have closed the part of the library I rely on while writing my thesis. Apparently they found some asbestos and now they have to think about how to deal with it. And until this problem is solved this part of the library remains closed. Very nice! So I'll need to order all the books I need via inter-library loan and this might take months.
And then there is my knitting - ah, you thought I would never get to it, right? I wanted to start on a pullover for a friend, but whenever we meet our children start driving us crazy so we forget to take out that measuring tape and just get done with meassuring her size. So I am grumpy now, because I can't start on this project and might not be able to finish it in time for her birthday.
Meanwhile I have cast on for the Bedtime Bathrobe from Lucinda Guy's And so to bed. The fancy ribbing looks quite nice. But I haven't had much time to get any further than the ribbing so far.

Why write a MA thesis?

Yes! Why am I writing this thesis anyway? To get my degree! Yes, but I would rather spend the time knitting and doing fun stuff.
And so it is - I read a bit, write a paragraph and then I just turn my back on my writing, put my earplugs in, listen to an audiobook (which has nothing to do with my thesis topic, of course), and knit.
This way I got through the hooded vest for L. and this way I nearly finished Otto the Owl in no time. And now? The hooded vest is too big. I intended it to be for a one year old boy. But it's so big it would fit my son - who's nearly 3 years old. And Otto? Otto will be an owl with just one wing - tight purse strings prevent me from visiting my LYS and buying an extra ball of New Leggero. Wait a minute. That's not true. I could afford one ball of New Leggero but I cannot afford to buy all the other interesting yarns they offer in the shop and so I will have to postpone shopping for this one little ball of yarn until I can either keep my eyes away from any other yarn, especially that silk yarn which would be wonderful for a pullover, or can make the purchase of this lovely silk yarn that I yearn for.

What do you do when you don't know what to do?

I knit! Mostly. But sometimes I forget to take my knitting stuff on short trips, because I think I can do without my knitting. I can't!
Anyway, I survived the holidays at my in-laws' and now I am back to the hooded vest - which is nearly finished. And in addition I am making a little scarf for the big sister of the twins I made the little sets for.
At the weekend we also made a little lamp for my son's room. Okay, it's not really a boy-ish design (pink with butterflies) but he quite liked it. Now I am waiting for more supplies to come so I can make a lamp with a more boy-ish pattern.

The Decision has been made

It's going to be a hooded vest/waistcoat for one of the boys.

But I'll be doing it in light blue. It's been a tough decision, not only because I won't have much time to do it but also because chosing the right colour wasn't that easy either. What would you dress a blue eyed little boy with a pale face and blonde/red hair in? Exactly, not easy. So it'll be light blue.

Lana Grossa New Leggero Colour 310, 100% microfibre, 150m/50g

I just hope 150g will do.

Birthdays are coming up

And that means a lot of them. We are halfway through February and there are lots of b-days coming up during the next months. Especially special b-days - my father turns 50, a friend's son turns 1 and yet another friend's son will be one as well. What to knit/make for all of them?
Well, I can always make something little with photos and paint for my father, so I don't need to worry about this too much. He loves nearly everything, as long as it's not knit - why so ever, he doesn't like knitted things. And I mean it. I could knit pure silk for him and he wouldn't like it and tell my it's itchy.
But what to make for those boys turning one? I'd like something special but WHAT?! And why are there more patterns for girls out there? Isn't it enough that kidswear shops have more products for girls already. One should think that knitters would come up with dute ideas for little boys.
So, will I make Blu or will it rather be Cargo. It's not easy to decide. Both look cute, but since the little boy in the Cargo pattern looks similar to both boys, I'll rather make this. And this is just because the boys look similar, the fact that jeans coloured yarn is hard to get around here has no influence, I swear!
